A raw, unrefined, inefficient interface limited the first versions of Almego. I was hired to turn that into a professional, coherent, and effective product.
By redesigning basically the entire app — including critical modules and key features — I helped deliver a more trustworthy, user-friendly, and sales-driving experience with a high user satisfaction rating of 4.5 of 5.

Sole inhouse UX designer on small dev team
Years
2018-2024
Challenge
The development of Almego had started years before I joined the team. Up until then, the company didn't have a dedicated designer, so flows and screens had been designed by the POs or developers to the best of their ability. While the good intentions were there, the UI was definitely in need of some design love. In other words, there was plenty of work for me to do.
Process
On a user story—by—user story, flow—by—flow and feature—by—feature basis, over the course of six years, I worked my way through almost the entire application, redesigning the UI. It was very hands-on; often I edited the UI source code directly myself, or at least provided developers with HTML/CSS templates on top of our customized Bootstrap frontend framework.
While the big task of a complete app redesign had to be broken down into manageable chunks, I continuously got feedback and input from customer support, and I tried to leverage existing best practice design patterns, usability test, if needed, and devise a consistent design language as we went along.
During my time with the Almego team, the app had a major rebrand, affecting many aspects of the design, not least fonts and colors. So, the screenshots below are from various brand iterations.
Outcome
A cohesive overall app design, with a professional look and feel, much improved usability and high user satisfaction rating.
In the period I worked on Almego, I have helped design or redesign hundreds of screens, flows and features, big and small — some surface level tweaks and some complete (re)designs from the ground up. Below is just a small selection, presented as Before and After screenshots.
Document Management – After redesign. Admittedly this is quite a dense interface, but highly structured and very powerful none-the-less. View case.

Along the way, observing users use our software, e.g. in training and playback sessions, has informed our prioritizations, design decisions and solutions.
Our dedicated and well-renowned chat and phone support team was a continuously valuable source of user input and feedback. They would be the first to know if users had questions or were struggling.
