Context

From 2013 to 2017, I was the primary Interaction Designer/UX Specialist on Capevo XForm, later KMD XForm, a standard platform toolset for creating and operating advanced government-grade web form solutions.

Challenge

KMD XForm is a product with a long history and it’s age was starting to show. To stay relevant to clients we needed to update the look and feel of the app and in the process optimize the interactions of individual screens and support better workflows. Also, due to a company acquisition we needed to rebrand the product from Capevo XForm to KMD XForm.

Process

We identified areas for improvement and I wireframed and guerilla-tested possible solutions. Where appropriate, I created the HTML skeleton atop Bootstrap, the most widely used frontend framework. For modernizing the appearance and rebranding the product, I dug deep into the complex, oldschool HTML source code and by handcrafting CSS styles, I created a brand new skin on top of the existing styling.

Outcome

A more coherent, contemporary, rebranded visual look with a better overview and an easier-to-use interface.
Before and after a cleanup of settings and visuals (but before rebranding). This provided a much less overwhelming 'Create new form' experience.

The online payment feature settings BEFORE UX improvements and rebranding featuring an inconsistent mix of old and new UI elements.
